How do I make a reservation for kayaks, SUPs, or boat charters?
All rentals are by reservation only—please call us at (512) 839-5510 to book. We do not offer walk-up rentals and are closed from December 1st through March 1st each year.
What are your business hours and seasonal closures?
- Winter closure: December 1st – March 1st (no rentals).
- Weekend hours (Apr-Nov): Saturdays & Sundays, 9AM-3PM (last launch at 2PM).
- Weekday hours: Mondays, Thursdays, & Fridays, 10AM-2PM (last launch at 1PM).
- Closed: Tuesday & Wednesdays (except by special arrangement).
What are the current rental rates on Lake Austin?
- Stand-up Paddleboards (SUPs) & Double Kayaks: $20 first hour, $10 each additional hour
- Single Kayaks: $15 first hour, $10 each additional hour
- Paddle Boats & Canoes: $30 first hour, $10 each additional hour
- Craigcat Electric Catamaran: $45/hr (2-hr minimum)
- 2000 Malibu Wakesetter (boat charter): $145/hr for first 2 hrs, then $125/hr
- 2012 Super Air Nautique (boat charter): $195/hr for first 2 hrs, then $175/hr (plus 8.25% sales tax & 20% mandatory captain’s gratuity)
Do you deliver equipment to Lake Austin launch sites?
Yes—our fully mobile service brings kayaks, SUPs, canoes, and even boat charters with captain directly to Striner Ranch Lake Club ramp (12300 River Bend) or any Lake Austin launch site you prefer. No hauling gear required.
What's included with my rental?
- All rentals include Coast Guard-approved life jackets and paddles, plus basic on-water instruction.
Are there any age or waiver requirements?
- Renters must be 18+.
- Under-18 guests need a minor waiver signed by a parent or guardian (parent need not paddle).
- Paddlers under 14 cannot paddle solo.
Can I bring my dog or food and drinks?
- Dogs: Welcome, as long as they’re comfortable with occasional Lake Austin waves (make sure to mention when making reservation.
- Food & Drinks: You may bring coolers with snacks, water, and adult beverages—just pack out all trash.
What parking and shuttle arrangements are there?
Parking at the Steiner Ranch Boat Club requires a resident pass (towing enforced). Instead park at our lot 1206 Summit Edge Dr, Austin TX 78732, sign your release, pick up gear, and ride with us down to the launch in our open-air SUVs.
What if wind or weather makes paddling unsafe?
Check Lake Austin wind conditions in advance (beginners may find winds over 13 MPH challenging). We operate in light rain. For weather-related cancellations or reschedules, give us a call—we’ll work with you to find a new time.
